HWInfo 6.42 Shows GDDR6X Memory Temperature on Nvidia RTX 30 Series GPUs
One of the most problematic sides of using the latest Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs for mining Ethereum is the fact that their video memory gets really hot and up until recently there was simply no tool to give you an idea how hot that is. Thanks to the latest HWiNFO version 6.42 you can now monitor the operating temperatures of the GDDR6X video memory of your RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3070, RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 GPUs and take the appropriate measures to keep things cool for ensuring maximum performance and problem free operation on the long run. Have in mind that you might actually be quite surprised when you see the actual numbers being really high, but that is to be expected, considering the fact that even the surface… [Read More...]
Ethereum (ETH) Mining With ASUS EKWB GeForce RTX 3090 Water-Cooled GPU
Recently we have built a 720 MHs Ethereum Mining Rig With 6x MSI GeForce RTX 3090 SUPRIM X 24G GPUs and shared our experience with it, and we just got our hands on a water- cooled RTX 3090 GPU form ASUS and had to give it a go for Ethereum mining as well. The ASUS EKWB GeForce RTX 3090 video card is the result of collaboration between ASUS and EK, it comes with EK full-coverage water block and takes up just a single slot. Specifications wise the ASUS EKWB GeForce RTX 3090 is just like a standard RTX 3090 video card with 350W TDP rating and dual 8-pin PCI-E power connectors that are supplying the required power along with the PCI-E x16 slot (be careful with extender power draw for… [Read More...]
More Epochs ?od v1.4 for Claymore Ethereum (ETH) Miner v15
Up until not long ago Ethereum (ETH) and in general most of Ethash AMD and Nvidia GPU mining was mostly done with Claymore’s Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v15.0, but unfortunately the miner stopped working as it had support up to DAG Epoch 384 for Ethereum. Furthermore, Claymore, the developer of the software has apparently disappeared or at least has stopped updating his software, so miners had to go for alternatives. Currently the most popular miner that has succeeded Claymore’s miner is PhoenixMiner, but Claymore’s miner is not entirely dead yet. Enter the user Justaminer on Bitcointalk, who has apparently modified Claymore’s miner without having access to the source code in order to make it work once more. Just_a_miner’s modification called More Epochs… [Read More...]
TeamRedMiner 0.8.0 With Improved Support for the Ethash Algorithm
Team Red Miner is a performance optimized cryptocurrency miner for AMD GPUs with support for a number of algorithms with the latest major version 0.8.0 bringing rewritten Ethash kernels and new mining modes for all GPU types. This means you should get better hashrate at a slightly lower power consumption on most recent AMD GPUs. In general, TeamRedMiner (TRM) behaves similarly to other AMD ethash miners, the key difference is the additional mining modes (B/C-modes) that use additional VRAM on the GPUs for further beneficial effects. Key highlights of the TRM 0.8.8 release: – Polaris: Efficiency and slight hashrate increase. B-mode reintroduced for added hash. B-mode must be enabled with –eth_aggr_mode or –eth_config=Bxxx. – Vega 56/64: greatly improved base kernel for efficiency. New B-mode that… [Read More...]
PhoenixMiner 5.5c RC With Improvements, New Features and Fixes
There is a new Release Candidate (RC) version of PhoenixMiner 5.5c available that brings some new features, improvements and fixes over the things introduced already in the last beta version PhoenixMiner 5.5b. Do note that if using the miner on AMD GPUs, although it comes with support for the latest AMD Windows driver 21.1.1 it is still not recommended to use them as there seem to still be some stability issues. If you already are using the previous 5.5b beta version you might want to give this new release candidate a go, otherwise you might want to stick with the previous stable 5.4c release for a bit more. PhoenixMiner 5.5c RC Full Changelog: – Added support for the latest AMD Windows driver 21.1.1 (still, we don’t recommend using… [Read More...]
How To Still Mine Ethereum With AMD Radeon RX 400/500 Series 4GB GPUs
AMD’s Radeon RX 470/480 and RX 570/58 with 4GB of video memory can still be used to mine Ethereum (ETH), even though the DAG size is already a bit over 4GB which is more than the video memory available on these GPUs. The current Ethereum DAG epoch number is #389 and the size of the DAG file is 4.04 GB and it will continue to grow, however with the current profitability mining ETH makes it worth to continue using these 4GB video cards at least a bit more. They can still be used in the so called “Zombie Mode” with a mining software that supports it in order to continue mining Ethereum for a bit more, even though the hashrate is going to be lower and continue to… [Read More...]

How to Host a Storj Node – Setup, Earnings & Reports
Almost three years ago, I have posted my first guide on how to host your own Storj node. Today, I’d like to make a follow up article and share my experience with Storj so far. Why Did I Choose Storj? There are many decentralized storage platforms available on the interwebs. Back in 2017, Storj was one of the most promising projects. Right from its beginning, it had a clear goal, a well-defined roadmap, and a team that was doing work. One of the selling points for me was that Storj was nailing their milestones and delivering exactly what they promised. Storj’s bigger competitor is SIA, a platform I happen to host for, too. If you’re curious to know my results with SIA, check my report here. I’ve… [Read More...]

How To Setup a SIA Host – Windows Tutorial
Sia Hosting Tutorial for Windows SIA is a decentralized storage network that allows renters to keep their data safe and 100% private. Some of its main selling points is that SIA offers very competent prices per stored Terabyte of information due of its decentralized nature. All transactions within the network are done using the SIA coin and there are three ways of getting your hands on it: By mining it (can be mined with GPU and ASICs) By hosting data (more details on this article) By trading it SIA Hosting vs Mining Mining supports the decentralized nature of the SIA blockchain. Just like, say, Ethereum, SIA needs a lot of hashpower to stay decentralized and reliable. That’s why it’s performed using GPUs and ASICs (though as of… [Read More...]
